In Bancali prison, 11 people who work in the structure have the coronavirus and 36 end up in quarantine
SASSARI. The infection situation in some Sassari nursing homes is getting worse. A Covid outbreak with 59 positives for the virus broke out at the Paolo VI nursing home in Sassari. Among those infected, at least 50 are elderly guests, some of whom have been hospitalized in the covid wards of Aou di Sassari. Two sisters from the Sisters of Gethsman Institute, owner and manager of the facility, and seven social and health workers who help the elderly also tested positive for the virus. The nursing home administrators also asked the Municipality for help in finding new health social workers to replace staff who tested positive for the virus.
In recent days, another retirement home of the Gethsmani sisters was invaded by the coronavirus: it is the shelter for disabled women located in Lu Bagnu, a village of Castelsardo, also in the Sassarese area. Also in this case there have been numerous positive cases among the guests, the sisters and the personnel who provide assistance to the disabled.
Desperate situation for the 27 elderly people of the “Villa Eba Giara” nursing home in Sassari: 22 of them are positive for Coronavirus and with them have been infected, or are in fiduciary isolation, most of the social and health workers who work in the structure and therefore unable to care for the elderly. Those infected are largely asymptomatic, but some of them are not self-sufficient and are in extreme conditions, so much so that the Nas carabinieri have been informed of the situation, called to check the state of attendance of the guests.
At Bancali Prison, ten prison officers and one employee also test positive for Coronavirus and 36 are in preventive quarantine among staff working at the facility. After the virus positivity registered in recent days in a detainee in a semi-liberated state, yesterday, November 5, all areas of the penitentiary were sanitized and 300 swabs were made to the agents, in the Ats drive in, in Rizzeddu. From the first tests carried out, 10 officers and a person in central functions have tested positive.
Another 36 agents, who came into direct contact with those infected, were quarantined, according to the indications of the health authorities. The results of the other swabs made with the agents are awaited. Swabs were also performed on inmates housed in the same building where the prisoner who tested positive in recent days is located, and from these he also hopes to know the result.
“We await the result of the other swabs – says the General Prosecutor of Prisons of Sardinia, Maurizio Veneziano – and for any eventuality, we have a regional intervention plan ready to compensate for the temporary absences of the agents in case the number of infections between the staff of the prison police force was going to increase. We hope that it will not be necessary to implement it, but we are willing to guarantee the continuity of the service “.
