In recent weeks, the increase in infections by Coronavirus in Lombardia, and especially in cities like Milan, he has sent the tracking system into a tailspin. Yesterday, Wednesday, November 4, Ats (Health Protection Agency) of the metropolitan city of Milan informed the general practitioners that the contact closure swab will no longer be performed. Or rather, it will not be done for those who do not present symptoms during home isolation. A choice that will undoubtedly ease the workload, but which runs the risk of becoming a time bomb, especially for those who come into contact with a positive case in the family. And to explain it in an interview with Fanpage. It is Anna Carla Pozzi, secretary of the Milan province of the Federation of general practitioners (Fimmg).
Doctor, doesn’t this run the risk of sending people who might still be positive for the virus onto the streets?
Not quite. If I come in contact with a case that tested positive on the molecular smear, just stay isolated for 14 days. If during that period I have not developed any type of symptoms, it means that I have not caught Covid. In fact, according to what we have been able to verify and have seen so far, the incubation is two weeks.
Is this a rule that applies to all cases?
It depends. If I have a co-worker who has tested positive for a molecular smear test, even if I will be considered close contact and put in isolation, if I don’t develop any symptoms, as mentioned above, it means I can feel comfortable. The situation is more complicated if a relative of mine is positive: in this case it is difficult to understand when was the last contact.
And in this case, isn’t it more dangerous not to rub after 14 days?
Once again it depends on the cases: it is assumed that I have civic sense and that my relative is isolated in his own room. Above all, avoid any type of contact and that everyone respect the procedures established on the subject. Even in this case, however, if I do not develop symptoms, it means that I have not contracted the coronavirus.
And in the case of people who are not in safe housing conditions?
In that case the situation is more complicated. We know very well that not everyone has the opportunity to safely quarantine and therefore have a room for them, a personal bathroom and everything they need to avoid being a vehicle of contagion for their families. For this reason Covid hotels are essential: hotel structures designed to perform isolation safely. At the moment this is the best solution to guarantee and above all to contain infections.
