The immune system
Another, even more important fact that emerged from the study refers to the sequelae left by the coronavirus on the immune system of those who are infected. The researchers discussed actual traces of SARS-Cov-2, which are also still detectable for 10 weeks after the end of the illness. “Some immune T cells develop memory cells, while others remain highly activated. This indicates that the immune system remains highly compromised with the disease for up to several weeks after infection. “explained Winfried F. Pickl, head of the research team.
But what exactly happens? First, we are witnesses a decrease in regulatory T cells, those responsible for limiting the reactions of the immune system to prevent them from becoming excessive. And that’s a problem, because your antibodies could end up attacking your own tissues. This same mechanism is the basis of the most serious forms of the disease.
In the immune system, traces of the passage of Covid-19 are detectable up to 10 weeks later.

In those who have contracted Covid-19, its presence in the blood is lower, a sign that the person is more exposed to the risk of suffering from other diseases. A series of important findings that will be useful both for the development of a vaccine, both to better delineate the characteristics of Covid and to understand which aspects should be paid more attention.
