The red zones in Italy go to five, with the latest incorporation of the autonomous province of Bolzano that has decided on its own to impose the blockade, despite the order of Minister Roberto Speranza after the last Dpcm had classified the area in the yellow zone. . If on the one hand there are the governors of Piedmont and Lombardy who are protesting the imposition of the government in their regions, on the other there is the president of the autonomous province of Bolzano, Arno Kompatscher, who goes in the opposite direction for the same reasons.
Attilio Fontana and Alberto Cirio’s accusation is that the data used by the government is too old to assess the level of risk of coronavirus infections in their regions. The same says Kompatscher who sees no other solution than: “Drastic and immediate measures to break the wave, to be able to start again as soon as possible.”
According to the latest Dpcm, Alto Adige is in fact within the regions of the yellow zone, that is, those with the lowest recognized risk and with the consequent lighter anti-Covid measures. But for Governor Arno Kompatscher, the numbers say something else. The huge number of new cases registered in recent days has led to the internal decision to identify Bolzano and ten common outbreaks as a red zone. The beyond 400 daily positive and more than 7,000 Household isolations observed in recent days have contributed to the rebellion in the province.
“According to Rome, we belong to the yellow zone, like Trentino”, Kompatscher began, “but, having fewer inhabitants, we tripled the number of patients in intensive care, we doubled the number of hospitalizations and on average we doubled the number of new infections.” The governor explains the inconsistency of the government’s assessment with the data by referring to the period considered to define the so-called areas of greatest risk.
“The Health Ministry’s assessment is based on data from October 25,” explains Kompatscher, underlining how things have changed in the meantime. The strategy that is now considered the most useful according to the president is that of “drastic and immediate measures to break the wave.” in the belief that “pursuing the pandemic is futile.” The measures that will come into force in Bolzano and neighboring municipalities from next Monday will be those provided by the Dpcm for the red zones.
“An application of stricter norms explicitly foreseen in the new document if the epidemiological situation requires it,” reiterated the governor. Today in the extraordinary session of the Provincial Delegation a decision was also made about the school: “We are taking advantage of the current autumn holidays to evaluate the possibility of giving face-to-face classes also in the red zones”, added Kompatscher, announcing the meeting of the next hours as decisive in deciding clear and effective rules in force as of next week.
