Monitoring, beds and infection rate: why Sicily is the orange zone

Rejected in the follow-up, above all, but also in the risk of saturation of the beds as well as in the contagion rate, the factor Rt. The closure of bars and restaurants for two weeks – it is in the Region that leads that you must seek responsibility : the data analyzed by the national technical-scientific committee, in fact, are not limited to contemplating the absolute number of infected, but also the capacity of the -Sicilia system to withstand the shock wave.

The data analyzed by the CTS are those of the report of the Higher Institute of Health updated to October 25. In that report, Sicily was indicated among the High-Risk Regions (a ranking in which, for example, Campania and Liguria did not fall, actually due to insufficient data, and Lazio): weigh – in addition to a Rt factor then by 1 38 – were precisely the probabilities of saturation of intensive care and ordinary hospitalization, both now close to the critical thresholds (which according to the ISS would have been exceeded in thirty days), and especially the follow-up. A sector in which Sicilia knows that it has failed: on October 25, interviewed by Luca Ciliberti on Telecolor, the Regional Health Councilor Ruggero Razza had in fact admitted that “the monitoring system no longer holds up”. On paper, the metropolitan cities of Palermo, Messina and Catania should have one Usca – that is, a positive management structure – for every 25 thousand inhabitants, but that rule has never been applied.

Now, however, nothing will change until November 20. In fact, inclusion in the orange zone lasts two weeks: Health Minister Roberto Speranza and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte have already closed the door to negotiations for the modification of the decision invoked last night by Musumeci, and on the other hand the process foresees that the next decision for the island will be made based on the data from Friday, November 13. That will be the new appointment with the classification of the island: if until then the monitoring is improved and the new health network promised by Razza comes into force, the Sicilians will be able to return to the bar from the following week. But that prospect, for the moment, is little more than a mirage. Even without political controversy.
