As of Friday, November 6, the new restrictive measures decided by the government with the latest DPCM (Prime Minister’s decree that will be in force until December 3) will come into force to try to contain the new spread of the coronavirus. The restrictions provide for the division of Italy into three areas, depending on the severity of the local epidemiological situation: a red, an orange and a yellow, from the most serious to the least serious.
The greatest limitations will be in Calabria, Lombardy, Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, considered “red zones”. Apulia and Sicily, on the other hand, were included in an intermediate risk band, the so-called “orange zone”. All other regions are considered “yellow areas”, that is, areas of the country where the virus circulates, but where the epidemiological situation is considered less serious.
The subdivision of the regions into the different areas was defined by an order signed by the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza and, as required by the latest Decree of the Prime Minister, in agreement with the presidents of the regions. The Prime Minister’s decree should have entered into force on 5 November, but it has been postponed one day “so that everyone has time to organize their activities,” as the Prime Minister explained on Wednesday night.

What happens in the “red areas”
In the “red zones” (Calabria, Lombardy, Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta) there will be restrictions that reduce what can be done to a situation similar to that of the ongoing closure at the national level. In essence, movements, allowed only within the municipality of residence, must be limited to strictly necessary activities, otherwise it is mandatory to stay at home.
Specifically, retail business activities will be suspended, with the exception of the sale of food and basic necessities, even in shopping centers, which will remain open only to allow access to these activities. The markets will remain closed, regardless of the type of activity that is carried out, except those destined to the sale of food products only. Bookstores, newsagents, tobacconists, pharmacies, parapharmacies and some activities related to personal services, such as hairdressers, barbers and laundries, will remain open.
All group sports activities will be suspended, including those carried out in outdoor sports centers, only individual and outdoor sports activities will be allowed. You can perform motor activities near your home, respecting physical distance and with the obligation of a mask. School activities will be carried out exclusively at a distance, with the exception of kindergarten, primary and secondary school.
