Area
Along with Liguria, Abruzzo, Basilicata, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Friuli, Lazio, Marche Molise, Sardinia, Umbria, Veneto, the provinces of Trento and Bolzano are also in the yellow zone. “In the orange area, with a medium-high criticality, are Puglia and Sicilia,” Conte said at a press conference at Palazzo Chigi. Piedmont, Lombardy, Calabria and Valle d’Aosta end up in the red zone.

The situation
Conte recalled that “since October the number of cases has almost doubled, in fact the RT has increased to 1.7 nationwide. But in some regions it is even higher. Compared to previous months, today we have an articulated curve tracking plan, based on 21 parameters. This is the compass that indicates where and how to intervene. If we were to introduce single measures, we would have a double negative effect: on the one hand, we would not take adequate and effective measures for the regions most at risk and, on the other hand, we would apply overly restrictive measures in the regions where the situation is less serious. That is why we have divided the entire peninsula into three zones: yellow, orange and red, each one with precise restrictive measures. They will go into effect on Friday – I wanted to postpone it one day so that everyone would have adequate time to organize their activities.
