MAJANO. He had been admitted to the hospital for other pathologies, now a month ago, temporarily leaving the Majano center for the elderly that in recent years had become his home.
Unfortunately, Gerardo Cecconi, born in 1946, from Bujese, will not be able to return: he tested positive for the swab a few days ago, while he had been in hospital for some time, he died on Monday, November 2.
“After a first negative swab, he was hospitalized on September 29 for pathologies that he had been carrying for some time. The contagion was found only after a new swab last Wednesday, which certifies quite unequivocally that it turned positive after entering the hospital, “says Beatrice Modesto, manager of the residential center for the elderly in Majano. For months in the trenches to protect older hosts from the virus, Cecconi was among them.
It is she, along with Deputy Mayor Elisa De Sabbata, to remember the 74-year-old man, who after a life as an emigrant had returned alone to Friuli. He had no Cecconi family, no close relatives. In addition to the personnel of the residential structure, it was the municipal administrations who were in charge of this. Buja on one side and Majano on the other.
“I remember him well, I often spoke with him who loved to tell me about his years working in France at Peugeot,” says De Sabbata, while the mayor of Buja, Stefano Bergagna, recalls the various occasions when he had met Cecconi .
“On his return from France he was received in Majano, he was fine, we tried to help him – says the mayor -. He liked to play cards, to be in company, he often exchanged with the French, but his size was unmistakably that of a Friulian, a good giant.
“He was a free spirit,” Modesto says again. He was our guest for about ten years, first he lived independently in an apartment, then, as his health conditions deteriorated, he was transferred to the senior center.
Given that the 74-year-old has no relatives, in all probability it will be the responsibility of the Municipality of Buja to organize the funeral. –
