Weekly data During the weekly briefing on the evolution of the pandemic, conducted by the extraordinary commissioner Antonio Onnis, the data corresponding to the last week were also released: positive cases from October 21 to 28 grew by 3,107 (+ 53%), currently positive of 2,301 (+ 70%), the deaths were 22 with a + 22.7%, those recovered were 784 (+ 31.5%). 108 people ended up in hospital (+ 56%), while those in intensive care have almost doubled (19 with + 86.4%).
THE STORY: 5 IN A ROOM WITH POSITIVE
Strategic options “Today’s data is a sad confirmation of the growth trend of the pandemic – commented Onnis -. We must tell the population that we must all contribute to breaking the chain of infections. For our part, we must commit to this and, on the other, take care of symptomatic patients and the weakest groups, that is the priority, a necessary strategic choice that must remain sustainable. Onnis also referred to the controversy raised by the stop of tampons in asymptomatic contacts: “With these daily figures it would not be possible. However, we are working to involve family doctors and pediatricians for some types of tests. As for the scenarios on the evolution, «« they are elaborated on a daily basis – underlined the commissioner -, there are moments in which the curve seems to lose momentum, then there are new horses. The effects of the containment measures are seen after two weeks, so next we must understand if those adopted in the last days are working, including the expansion of distance education in schools ”.
Hospitals: ambulances lined up The situation in hospitals is increasingly delicate. In Perugia there are no places available in Covid rooms and it is not uncommon to see ambulances with Covid patients parked outside the emergency room awaiting treatment. The TGR reports that due to the emergency and the positive cases, the emergency room of the Umbertide hospital will only be operational from 8 to 20 and discontent is increasing in the city.
Pressure on hospitals Regarding hospitals, Onnis has remarked that “the average age of patients is increasing, in parallel with the average age of those infected, which is currently around 40-42 years.” It does not have multiple beds. “The situation is fluid, every day we add more as necessary and the entrance to the Spoleto hospital will give us a great hand”. Also for intensive care, given that there are now 98 places, 18 of which are still available (considering both Covid patients and non-Covid patients), here we also act every day to increase them. “It should not be ruled out – said Onnis – that other hospitals may also be involved to receive Covid patients, I hope not and that is enough for us, but it will depend on how the pandemic evolves.” By the way, there are currently around 100 positives in the region among doctors, nurses and health technicians.
Umbertide: schools suspended The Umbertide City Council announces that “as a result of the suspension of face-to-face teaching for some classes in municipal schools, the school transport service provided by three drivers has been temporarily suspended. Furthermore, Usl Umbria 1 continues to monitor the situation ”.
