“We are in a democratic state, the right to demonstrate must always be guaranteed to everyone. But in this difficult moment for Covid 19, there are violent bands that try to infiltrate the streets to exploit the legitimate dissent of the economic categories most affected by the crisis. That is why I call on all citizens who are demonstrating to clearly and publicly distance themselves from those who are devastating cities and violently attacking the police forces.

In recent days demonstrations and riots have been repeated throughout Italy, last night again in Rome: is there a common political leadership?
“It is a very complex situation, together with the normal and civil protests of citizens and workers, we have witnessed indescribable episodes of violence, attacks on the police and vandalism against public property and real looting. We find the participation in these incidents of left and right extremists, anarchists, ultras, Italians and foreigners, often very young, with police records for common crimes, expression of marginalization and rebellion contexts. On some occasions, as happened in Naples, the presence of violent groups belonging to organized crime has also been found in the squares. The mobilizations usually take place through the web but, in such a composite context, where each territorial reality has its own characteristics, I find it really difficult to identify a common political strategy ”.
The police seem oriented to intervene as little as possible to stop the guerrillas. Is this part of a strategy?
“The police forces are acting with the utmost firmness against the violent, there have been arrests, complaints to the Judiciary and convictions. The attacks were dealt with decisively. At the same time we operate with the utmost serenity and mediation towards citizens who demonstrate civilly and exercise their rights, expressing all their concern about the difficult situation.
Are there accurate intelligence warnings about a possible destabilizing design in Italy? And if so, by whom?
“The intelligence is following the situation with the utmost attention and has not reported any direct and specific threats.”
Are the forces that can be deployed sufficient? The protest is shaking cities but also small cities, will the available personnel be enough to cover the various emergencies?
“The Department of Public Security manages the services, according to the needs that arise in the territory, with the deployment of mobile departments of the police forces according to the needs that the prefects indicate at any time. In such a delicate moment, I want to thank once again all the men and women of the police forces, local police and military contingents, who committed themselves with professionalism and dedication throughout the national territory. To them must go the gratitude of all citizens for the hard work done.
Do you think the reasons for merchants, bartenders, restaurateurs, who feel disappointed are legitimate?
“I know that there are many small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, and all their employees, who are going through a very difficult time due to the restrictive measures that the government has had to adopt. We must all be aware that the absolute priority now is the protection of public health: the epidemiological curve must be kept under control to avoid a new blockade that puts the economy even more on its knees ”.
Do you think more restrictions will be needed to counter the spread of the infection? Is there a risk of a new total blockage?
“This depends on the trend of the epidemiological curve and therefore individual behavior is very important, as always, even within families. The government is doing everything possible to avoid widespread closures, but the effort in this regard must be unanimous: that is why I appeal above all to young people to adopt increasingly responsible behaviors also to protect their loved ones at home » .
How do you intend to reassure citizens who consider themselves “penalized” by the Dpcm?
“The government, with the measures launched yesterday afternoon by the Council of Ministers, acted quickly with the aim of delivering compensation and supplies to the categories most affected by closures and closures as soon as possible. Time is of the essence. On this front, no delays are allowed. ‘
How many controls have been carried out since the last decree came into force? Are Italians Still Responsible?
“The analysis of the data collected in the last four weeks of controls shows a growing trend: in October, there were 20% more controls of people and 39% more controls in commercial establishments. Specifically, from October 1 to 26, almost one million 650 thousand controls of people were carried out and 7,547 were sanctioned. In the same period, almost 219 thousand commercial establishments were controlled, 1,056 owners and 234 closure orders were sanctioned. That said, I believe that the vast majority of citizens and entrepreneurs are behaving with a great sense of responsibility. We are all obliged to continue on this path ».
