The alpine rescue of the Aosta Valley has carried out a search operation in the Breithorn, following an accident alarm (ELT emergency locator transmitter) to a private helicopter that, according to the data collected by the Poggio Renatico power station and transmitted to the Aosta Valley Single Rescue Center, it was flying over that area. The accident occurred in the area of White tops, at an altitude of 3000 meters, in an inaccessible area (off the ski slopes).

At the place of operations, a team made up of technicians from the Aosta Valley Alpine Rescue and Sagf on the ground and the Air Zermatt helicopter made a flyby.

The alarm just before midnight

The helicopter that issued the ELT alert was detected by ground crews shortly before midnight. The rescuers (Alpine Rescue Valdostano and Sagf) reached the helicopter and recovered the two occupants, both of Italian nationality: one deceased and another seriously injured.

Due to poor visibility due to high-altitude clouds and fog, the casualty was transferred to a higher area, accessible by helicopter. The patient was treated by the Swiss health service and transferred to the Bern hospital in serious condition. The dynamics of the accident are being evaluated.
