Firecrackers and paper bombs, smoke bombs, police charges, shop windows destroyed in Via Roma, wastebaskets thrown to the ground. There are five protesters arrested, they would be ultras, and the first wounded, a journalist hit by the throwing of a bottle. Tension has now erupted in the first of the two demonstrations organized in Turin against the institution of the curfew in Piedmont and the entry into force of the decree on the closure of bars and restaurants at 6 in the afternoon as a result of the protests in Naples and Rome. About four hundred people gathered in Piazza Castello under the Palazzo della Regione, including about fifty over 50. With the cry of “Freedom, freedom, we want to be free to work”, but also with slogans against Prime Minister Conte, they began to throw bottles and paper bombs. The police loaded them and pushed them towards via Roma and via Pietro Micca, in the center of the center. In via Roma, underrepresented protesters attacked shop windows and smashed them. The police responded with tear gas.
It all started with a pair of smoke bombs thrown at the carabinieri cordon deployed in front of the Palazzo della Regione Piemonte. The gesture was preceded by a brief impromptu meeting by a participant.
Some are merchants. Antonio Colò is a restaurateur: “My pizzeria was forced to close due to the dpcm, I have 5 employees.”
“You have to be on our side, not the mafia state,” protesters say as the bottle drops continue. There is much discontent on the part of those who came thinking of a quiet demonstration. Some have left the square, others have attacked the violent. “They have no respect, we are here to defend our business,” shouted a merchant to the violent.
But it didn’t help. In fact, his fury was unleashed against the stores. One after another, the shop windows were destroyed. The violent have entered some businesses, looting them.
The situation in the other square, place of the second event, is calmer. About two thousand people gathered in Piazza Vittorio, almost all with masks on their faces. The attempt to reach the other protesters in Piazza Castello was blocked by a police cordon in Via Po.
