“Covid is both a physical and a mental prison”. Talking is Alessandro mele, 31 years of Frosinone. And you know what he says since he entered the hospital “Spaziani” in Frosinone. He was there, precisely because he contracted the coronavirus. And he had the courage to bear witness to his illness, to be a warning and send a message to everyone: “Don’t believe urban legends, the virus exists. Respect the rules».
Covid, the outburst of the resident of the hospital’s covid department
«Almost a week ago – Alessandro says from his hospital bed – I began to have some suspicious symptoms. At first, I had a fever. It failed, despite trying to take some medications, and continued to fluctuate between 37 body degrees and 38.5 degrees. Beyond that, I began to experience pain in my bones. Among other things, I began to feel no more taste or smell. Finally, what scared me the most was the difficulty I felt in breathing, as if I was always under stress».
Hence, the journey to the hospital. The fears materialized and the verdict of the doctors: covid pneumonia, already in an advanced state. «Once in the emergency room, I was immediately hospitalized – explains Alessandro. They took me to the infectious disease ward. They helped me with oxygen. And then there is therapy, with an IV antibiotic and cortisone, to help me breathe. Fortunately the treatment is going well and I feel better ».
In addition to the physical problems and difficulties of the body itself, Covid puts the emotions of the sick at serious risk. As Alessandro says: «It is also a blow from the emotional point of view. As soon as, sadly, one enters this hospitable context, one realizes the brutality of the virus. It is inevitable and compromises everything. You suffer a lot from headaches. But, beyond this, the terrible thing is that you are aware that you will not be able to see, who knows for how long, your loved ones, your family and you will not be able to continue with your work. That is why I say that Covid is a mental prison, as well as a physical one.».
His story is precious to better understand, with direct testimony, the tragedy of Covid. “I was one of the first to be a bit skeptical, although I have always followed the rules and used the mask. I want to tell everyone that the virus exists, even if it may be mild or more severe. It is not a walk in the park. Respect the rules and, at the first symptoms, notify your doctor. And quarantine yourself immediately. I think – explains Alessandro – I got sick at work, since I am in contact with many people ».
Young Frosinone, in fact, is also owner of a bar in the lower part of the capital. It’s closed now and has been since he got sick. For this reason, Alessandro also turns his gaze on the CIF employment situation: «The worst thing, in addition to the physical and emotional, is the impossibility of continuing to work. TOnow I will have to deal with the closure of my business. And that worries me. It would have been correct if the Government had given us a hand to the entrepreneurs, who ended up in this situation. Perhaps with a daily allowance that would allow us to cover our business expenses. I would have liked to have the serenity to face this situation with the necessary calm, also from the financial point of view.
Finally, the first thing Alessandro will do, as soon as he wins his battle with Covid, “will be to hug my children and all my loved ones. This is my priority. After that, I will reopen my business immediately. And I will continue to live, always showing the utmost attention to compliance with anti-Covid regulations ”.
