Fascists in the square, first the fireworks then the paper bombs against the agents: tension in the center

The scenes seen in Naples did not take place but also in Rome there were moments of tension between those who were in the square demonstrating against “the dictatorship of health and the curfew” (very few) and the police.

The demonstration, with a rally called by the far-right Forza Nuova movement, began quietly.

At 11pm, in fact, perhaps a hundred people were present in Piazza del Popolo (200 according to Forza Nuova). However, the numbers are much lower than expected, or at least the expectations of the organizers.

A second meeting failed if one takes into account the one that was also held on the night from Friday to Saturday with just thirty people who demonstrated “against the dictatorship of health” in Pyramid.

At midnight, however, there were moments of tension and they started right in the Piazza del Popolo. First the fireworks with the colors of the Tricolore, then the violence with the launching of firecrackers, paper bombs and objects against the police who were guarding the area.

Then the accusation against the conflictive strip of protesters who gathered in the square.

The police pushed the protesters towards Piazzale Flaminio where a small guerrilla broke out in the streets of the neighborhood: perhaps what the fascists of Forza Nuova wanted, while the police blocked the outlets of via del Corso and via del Babuino, the streets commercial.

Shared scooters were also launched. “It cannot be accepted that one minute after midnight there is the virus and one minute before“Forza Nuova leader Giuliano Castellino told reporters in the square without a mask.

During the riots some garbage containers in Lungotevere and two mopeds also caught fire. At least ten were arrested around one in the morning and two policemen who needed medical attention.

Moments of tension also in the Testaccio and Trastevere area with smoke bombs and scooters thrown at the police. Some people were also arrested here. The position of the detainees is being examined. Today a budget is expected from the Rome Police Headquarters.
