Campania, skip the lock. De Luca: “Local stop at 11pm and father one hundred percent”

We will continue to follow our penalty line, without changing a comma, as is our duty ”. The governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, advances in a straight line after last night’s clashes in Naples, but in the afternoon the result of the State-Regions Conference forces him to postpone the announced closure of Campania.

First reason: the Government does not intend “to take drastic restrictive measures at the national level, making it impossible to implement measures limited to a single region, outside of a national decision that would also imply uncontrollable movements outside regional borders.” Second: the absence, for the moment, of a socioeconomic refreshment plan, which De Luca has always said that he considers essential before launching drastic closures.

Meanwhile, the governor differs on two key issues of the new dpcm: distance education in his opinion should remain one hundred percent, with the exception of kindergartens only, and public places should be closed at 11 a.m. night instead of 6 pm as required by the new national repression. In the absence of general closings “it is useless to sanction entire categories.”

The announced ordinance on tomorrow’s closure will not be there, even if a provision introducing new containment measures for the epidemic that continues to run fast in Campania is not excluded. After yesterday’s alarming leap forward (2,280 infections, a new regional record of 15,801 swabs), today’s data shows a slowdown with an increase of “only” 1,718 cases.

As there has also been a considerable drop in swabs (12,530), the situation remains practically unchanged, “one step away from tragedy,” as the president of the Region defined it yesterday, reiterating the absolute urgency of drastic measures. Special attention continues to be paid to the school, which the governor considers a dangerous source of contagion not because of internal activity but because of unprotected entrance and exit meetings.

From the data of the Crisis Unit, it can be deduced that, in the two weeks following the opening, infections in the age group up to 18 years have grown nine times, compared to three in the remaining population: an index that according to the governor imposes to continue with distance education.
At the State-Regions conference, the Governor of Campania spoke on one point: “We ask the Government to commit itself: to guarantee legality and compliance with the laws; to immediately develop a socio-economic support plan for productive and for families. This support is an absolute priority, as are health measures, as we did in Campania with an economic and social plan taken at the same time as restrictive measures. As of today we will not accept delays and interlocutions if the issue social is not immediately addressed. ” An issue that since yesterday is also a matter of public order.

Even the mayor of Naples Luigi de Magistris insists, like De Luca, on the urgency of measures in favor of the categories weakened by Covid. “I have repeatedly stressed the concrete risk of criminal contagion and the infiltration of violent and criminal bands that could exploit a strong and growing social unrest. That is why it is necessary to implement all measures to support the profound economic and labor hardships of our community” .
