PORTOGRUARO – While everything is ready for the launch of the bridge in the A4 joining Fossalta di Portogruaro and Teglio, the controversy over the danger of the Venice-Trieste section that passes through eastern Veneto flares up again. That, according to the Foundation Think tank Northeast is the road with the major accidents northeast.
Wednesday, with the collision between three trucks and the fire that destroyed one that forced the A4 to close until night, was just one more incident in an endless series. Despite the gradual decline in recent years, in fact, in 2019 there were 6.9 accidents per 100 million km traveled on this section (the figure cited by Think Tank includes the A23 Palmanova-Udine, the A28 Portogruaro-Conegliano and the A34 Villesse-Gorizia). In 2019 there were 179 accidents in the Venice-Trieste, a lower figure only on the Brescia-Padua section of the A4 where there were 235, but with a much lower impact on the journeys (4.6 accidents per 100 million km). «The eastern Veneto continues to suffer from a significant infrastructure deficit – complains Antonio Ferrarelli, president of the Think Tank Foundation -, despite the huge heavy traffic crossing, which adds to the presence of some of the main tourist resorts in the whole country. Unfortunately, this is a problem that is destined to get worse, considering that the current health emergency has displaced most of the tourist flows towards private cars. We have been asking for time to intervene to improve accessibility, but also to increase safety, speeding up the works in the third lane and building a motorway exit to Bibione. We hope – concludes Ferrarelli – that the newly created Regional Council of Veneto will heed the requests, often unheard of, coming from eastern Veneto.
Meanwhile, for the new bridge over the A4, an absolute novelty is planned for Saturday and Sunday: for the first time, as part of the construction of the third lane Venice and Trieste, a new launching technique will be tested that will enable the section to be hoisted. center of an overpass without using a crane. The bridge in question is the one that faces the A4 between Fratta and Teglio. The launching of the central section of the Teglio-Fratta overpass, a building of 250 tons and a length of 60 meters, will not be hoisted with cranes and hooked at the height of the piles, as happened in the rest of the circumstances, but will be transported by two “cars” placed in the center of the road, rotated and hoisted by two towers from bottom to top by using hydraulic jacks. The section will then rest on the piles of the bridge.
“An unprecedented technique, designed to guarantee greater safety in the launch phases” they explain from Autovie.
The other work that will involve the companies will be the pushing of the last reinforced barrel of the sublot (a concrete device that allows the connection of the ditches from north to south that collect water from the road) a few meters from the Lemene River in the Portovecchio area, in Portogruaro. The 25 meter long and 3 70 centimeter high cannon will be placed seven meters deep below the road. Then two powerful excavators will be used that will make a total excavation of 700 cubic meters in which the device will then be pushed. Later the highway area will be rebuilt.
CLOSURES
On the section of the A4 in the east of Veneto, therefore, motorway closures are obviously foreseen: from 7:00 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday 24, the entire segment between the Portogruaro junction and the Palmanova junction will be closed at both directions. At 8 am on Sunday 25, the Palmanova – Latisana crossing will reopen, while the closure of the Latisana – Portogruaro node will last until 3 pm on the same day.
