Registry of national infections: today in Italy there are more than 15 thousand infections. In Sicily, however, there are 562 new cases with 11 deaths. In the province of Palermo, on the other hand, the number is close to 200. 7,412 swabs were processed (7.45% positive). The deaths were registered 7 in Palermo; 2 in Catania; 1 in Messina and 1 in Marsala (the Region does not provide other details).
Therefore, the coronavirus emergency does not seem to stop. According to the new bulletin issued by the island’s Ministry of Health, hospitalizations and intensive therapies also continue to increase: the former reach 565 (+23), while the latter reach 83 (+6). The positive news today is that there are 198 people who have recovered from Covid. Therefore, in Sicily the current positives are 7,850, of which 7,202 are in home isolation.
This is the breakdown by province: Palermo 192, Catania 170, Messina 53, Trapani 66, Siracusa 20, Ragusa 34, Enna 5, Caltanissetta 19 and Agrigento 3.
In the province of Palermo, almost 2 positives per thousand inhabitants
The growth of the infection in the Palermo area is worrying. The capital with 2.18 infections per 1000 inhabitants has a figure slightly higher than the average, which stands at 1.85 positives. The values of San Giuseppe Jato, San Cipirello, Cefalà Diana, Mezzojuso, Montemaggiore Belsito, Villafrati are alarming (see attached map). After verified contacts of a Villa Niscemi employee with a colleague from the Green Area who tested positive for Covid 19, the structure was closed this afternoon to carry out sanitation operations. Activities will resume when the necessary authorization from the competent ASP in the matter is issued.
The situation in the rest of Italy
The new coronavirus bulletin from the Ministry of Health today, Wednesday, October 21, 2020, confirms the worrying trend in constant increase that has brought the number of Covid patients to more than 155,000 currently positive, levels never reached during the first wave. Today there are 15,199 new cases (registration of new positives) and 127 deaths. A total of 926 patients are hospitalized in intensive care (+56) and 9,057 in Covid wards (+603).
In terms of regions, there are 4,125 new cases in Lombardy, 1,799 in Piedmont, 1,760 in Campania, 1,219 in Lazio. As for the 1,422 cases in Veneto, this is a recalculation that takes into account the positives that had not been counted in recent days.
