A woman left her newborn daughter in the children’s hospital in Palermo after the result of the Covid swab that reported the girl’s positivity.
The woman went to the emergency room last week with the baby for the tampon. After the outcome and the positivity, it was ruled out by the paperwork, but the woman has never returned to the hospital and is nowhere to be found.
“The medical staff tried for days to contact the mother – explains Dr. Marilù Furnari, from Di Cristina’s health department – but we could not locate her. At that time we notified the police of the possible abandonment of the girl.
The records are entrusted to the police who are viewing the images of the entrance to the emergency room, have acquired the acceptance documentation and listened to the doctors and nurses who have come into contact with the woman. This is the 26th child hospitalized for Covid-19 in the infectious disease ward run by Dr. Salvatore Giordano. But 17 have come in in the last month, since the schools reopened.
“Only four have any complications, the rest are fine and will be discharged as soon as they test negative – Furnari concludes – The newborn is one of the children who is better, at least from a clinical point of view.”
