The authorities of the region Lombardy, the most affected during the first wave of the pandemic COVID-19, they asked the government for a curfew from 11pm to 5am every day – starting from Thursday October 22, which imposes one stop all activities and trips, with the exception of exceptional cases.

Among the requests is also that of to close, on Saturday and Sunday, medium and large commercial distribution, except food and basic necessities.

The proposal came, unanimously, let’s go mayors of all the capital municipalities of Lombardy, by the president ofAnci, Mauro Guerra, by the leaders of the majority and opposition groups and by the Governor of the Region Attilio fontana.

The request – addressed to the government, in the person of the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza – would provide, as occurred during the closing months, last spring, some exceptions, to allow the movement reasons for health, work and proven need, and comes after having taken note of what is represented by the Lombard Technical Scientific Committee.

In particular, the Indicators Commission created by the General Directorate of Welfare of the Region has established that to October 31 could have about 600 hospitalized in intensive care and up to 4,000 in non-intensive care. Currently, there are 113 hospitalized in intensive care, 1,136 hospitalized non-ICU. During the dramatic days of last March, Lombardy found itself healing up to 1,300 Covid patients in intensive care. Until last October 11, the occupancy rate of intensive care places in the Region was 5.6 percent.

For days, the number of new infections in Italy has been growing at a much higher rate than that registered until the end of September. In Lombardy the situation is particularly delicate, for many reasons: 1,687 new positives were also registered on Monday, with a percentage of positives in relation to swabs made higher than the national one (11.5 percent).

In the day of Sunday, the government has launched a Decree of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (Dpcm) in which, in addition to implementing some measures to combat the spread of Covid in Italy, local authorities were asked to be the protagonists of the request for new restrictive measures: local and selective closure (or curfew), to try to avoid a national closure.
