Covid, Erekat’s conditions worsen: he’s in a coma

The health conditions of the current PLO secretary general and historic Palestinian chief negotiator, Saeb Erekat, who contracted Covid-19 in recent weeks, have worsened. According to Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, where he has been hospitalized since yesterday, Erekat is “intubated” and is “in a coma” due to breathing difficulties.

The PLO general secretary was transferred to Hadassah hospital yesterday and his condition has worsened in recent hours. “Erekat – read the medical bulletin – had a quiet night but this morning his conditions worsened and now they are critical.”

“Due to respiratory difficulties, he is in a coma and uses mechanical ventilation” in the intensive care unit, continues the bulletin quoted by the ‘Jerusalem Post’. Erekat, who underwent a lung transplant in the United States in 2017, suffers from pulmonary fibrosis.
