The refrain – instrumentally credited by incapable politicians, confused doctors and sports bar commentators – according to which “blame” for the spread of Covid would be attributable to “irresponsible behavior by Italians” no longer holds.
The truth is another: the emergence of Coronavirius has now taken the form of a political club of reckoning that function in the management of power. Those who have the misfortune to stumble upon the malevolent trigger of the infection learn it the hard way. From the moment the body manifests the symptoms of infection, the chasm opens. A phone call to the Ats (Health Protection Agency), which is the first garrison that, in theory, should defend you from the virus, is enough to understand that you are condemned to be left alone with the disease. And that what you hear on television is nonsensical talk. Virtual truths that reality lies shamefully. Apart from “telematic home assistance”. If you have a fever and cough, the call center on duty will direct you to someone who should explain the “health protocol” to follow, but who can really only tell you three things: 1) that “you have to isolate yourself at home for 10 days “; 2) that “the swab cannot do it because the waiting list is long”; 3) that “they will call you back at the end of 10 days.” A time frame in which you can heal or die without anyone actually “calling” you. And if you ask: “But can I make the tampon in private?” (cost: 80 to 120 euros ed), the Ats silences you: “No. We take care of her, she is isolated and she cannot leave the house, even from her room.” Too bad that “taking charge” is, in practice, a great effort. In the days that follow, the “control” call remains a chimera. What about the elusive “contact tracing”? If the patient does it of their own free will with an autonomous round of phone calls, that’s fine; otherwise, worse for everyone. One thing is certain: today the Ats can no longer map potential subjects at risk of contagion. The situation is out of control. And on the farce of the Immuni application it is better to spread a merciful veil The fact is that as long as the symptoms remain within the tolerable range, the “inmate” in the house resists, but when the feeling is aggravated, the “inmate” understandably escapes isolation by seeking help in the emergency room. Where, thanks to this chain of inefficiency, the risk epidemic it expands dramatically. The scenario witnessed by Simone Manca, president of Simeu (Italian Society of Emergency-Urgency Medicine) is impressive: “Covid hospitals are saturated. The places for the infected that had been increased in hospitals during the confinement have been closed and abandoned. There are no more monitors or beds. The technical times to reactivate them are not very fast also due to lack of personnel. And then: «Emergency rooms are attacked by people who fear they have Covid and seek an answer that local medicine is not giving them. Needless to say, citizens see the only point of reference in the emergency hospital. There is talk of at least 30% of asymptomatic and paucisymptomatic patients who should be treated differently ”. But it would be too complicated and expensive. Much easier and cheaper to blame the “irresponsible behavior of Italians”.
