School – Viterbo – The Student Network: “A situation like this could perhaps have been avoided if crowded buses had been replaced by public transport”
Viterbo – We receive and publish – Closing schools is a defeat for all.
We learned from the newspapers of the news, announced by the mayor of Viterbo Giovanni Arena, of the imminent closure of schools as of Monday 19, if the government does not undertake the same measures nationwide.
We have been repeating for years that investments in schools and public transport are essential in the province of Viterbo and throughout Italy and, therefore, hearing this news represents a great defeat for all of us. Students, and in recent months we have all become even more aware of it, we have always firmly believed in the importance of education in the growth of conscious and informed people and in a more just, supportive and dynamic society. And we realized that not being able to access education in person is a great harm to students and to society as a whole.
Perhaps a situation like this could have been avoided if crowded buses had been replaced by adequate public transport, if our calls for investments in public schools, repeated over the years, had not been neglected by blind and irresponsible institutions that continue to misunderstand the fundamentals. which is to guarantee young people an education and training to meet the challenges of the future.
We can no longer allow decisions to be made to contain the health emergency without taking into account how fundamental school is for students to develop the tools and skills necessary to face tomorrow. For this reason, in this crisis situation, we hope that the priority and commitment of the institutions is aimed at creating the necessary health conditions to keep schools and universities as open as possible.
