In Italy there are 391,611 cases of coronavirus since the start of the pandemic: +10,010, a new absolute record, even surpassing yesterday’s when the daily infections had been +8,804 (+7,332 on October 14). Third consecutive day above the figures of March 21, the highest official peak of the first wave, with 6,557 infections but only 26,336 swabs (about a sixth compared to today).

The number of deaths amounts to 36,427: +55 compared to yesterday when they were +83 (+43 the day before). The highest number of victims is recorded in Sicily (10), Lombardy and Veneto (7 each, Lombardy had registered 26 deaths yesterday), Liguria (6), Lazio and Puglia (5 each), Piedmont 4.

Swabs processed in the last 24 hours were 150,377, down from yesterday’s record of 162,932 tests (from 152,196 on October 14). The ratio between positives and swabs is now 6.66%, up from 5.40% yesterday (it was 4.82% on October 14). This is what emerges from the data of the Ministry of Health and Civil Protection.

Regions with the highest number of infections

Although Molise registered the lowest number of infections (21 out of 538 swabs), the highest number of new infections is concentrated in Lombardy with 2419 positives out of 30,587 swabs. Followed by Campania with 1,261 positives out of 14,222 swabs, Piedmont with 821 positives out of 9,707 swabs, Lazio with 795 positives out of 19,438 swabs, Tuscany with 755 positives out of 11,500 swabs.
