There are three questions to which Giuseppe Conte He did not respond during today’s press conference in which he explained the Dpcm launched yesterday: has there been, in these emergency months, a “turn of democracy”? How to solve the overcrowding of public transport? Are the measures introduced yesterday a first step towards a new blockade?
Faced with these questions, the Prime Minister did the best he could: he prevaricated. He dusted off the language he likes the most, that of “decks”, and said: “What does turn of democracy? We have done everything necessary in a manner compatible with the Constitution to face a pandemic, we have a priority duty to protect the lives and health of citizens, as well as to prevent the economy from collapsing. Our measurements are in the sign ofadequacy and of proportionality“But how can one speak of adequacy when, in the midst of an epidemic, the government leaked the progress of its decisions to more or less compliant media to test the minds of Italians? How can we speak of adequacy when, In these months, did Conte govern to the beat of Dpcm? How can we talk about dialogue with the opposition and the regions when, during a press conference, the prime minister mentioned the opposition, in particular the peoples of Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni, just to attack her?
How to speak of proportionality when, to date, the only path that the government has followed is that of prohibitions and closures? And we could go on for a long time, citing, for example, vaccine chaos or the lack of implementation, in seven months, of a pandemic plan to manage the eventual fall emergency. Not a word about this. New requests only sacrifices.
But let’s move on. It is enough to work in a big city – or go to social networks – to see the images of hundreds of workers who, forced to take public transport, do not respect social distancing. And here we need a little digression, as the Prime Minister pointed out. It is no longer correct to say “social distancing” because it would be better to speak of “personal distancing” since the rules imposed by the government “have brought us closer together and the community is now more cohesive.” Leaving aside a sentence by Baci Perugina, it is necessary to point out that the government, represented by the technicians it has elected, has failed. Just a few days ago, in fact, Sergio Iavicoli of the CTS announced that “there is no indication of a correlation between public transport and coronavirus.” An at least reckless statement, which left many open questions, including: why does the virus attack in the bar, where distances are greater, and not in the subway. Well, this statement was denied by the words leaked by the CTS in the last hours, which reiterated “the absolute necessity” of the investigations so that the norms and recommendations are respected “for the prevention of gatherings linked to the breach of the filling limit . of means of transport “.
And finally: should we prepare for a new blockade? Conte says neither yes nor no. He just says that he wants to avoid this eventuality in every way. But it is not known how the government intends to navigate in the coming months. Today’s data speaks of 5,901 (with 1,112,544 swabs) in the last 24 hours, 41 deaths and 62 more people in intensive care. Numbers that, for now, do not cause concern but that require a structured and punctual plan to manage the emergency. Conte did not respond to the three questions posed by journalists. He only provided vague, smoking words. Furthermore, the prime minister has not had good relations with the press for some time. We recall, by way of example, the answer -in this case there was- given to Francesca Nava, a FanPage journalist, who asked her to account for the government’s work in Bergamo: “If tomorrow you are going to have the responsibility of government, will write the decrees “. And again, to cite a more recent event, journalists were asked for a police clearance to stop in front of Palazzo Chigi.

It was on January 31 when Conte, Lilli Gruber’s guest, said before the first cases of coronavirus: “We are very prepared.” We have seen the fruits of that “we are very ready”: a blocked country and more than 35 thousand deaths. Now the scenario runs the risk of repeating itself, even contradicting Marx who said that history repeats itself twice: the first in tragedy and the second in farce. Here the tragedy runs the risk of doubling.
