ROME – After the new Decree of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, he Viminale tried to clarify some problems that arise, in particular, about the provisions for coronavirus in sports. The Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, believes that all amateur contact disciplines must be prohibited, since the diffusion of saliva particles that are expelled with the breath increases during physical activity. For this reason, it becomes practically impossible to practice sports that do not guarantee a safe distance, such as soccer (and derivatives), martial arts, boxing, volleyball, etc. A valid speech both indoors and outdoors. The exceptions are tennis and paddle tennis, which guarantee a safe distance, and of course individual sports that can be practiced independently, such as jogging. At the moment even gyms or swimming pools are not covered by the prohibitions and may continue their activity, always respecting the specific anti-Covid regulations.

Difference between professionals and amateurs

Following the provisions, the Scientific Technical Committee has asked to limit the provisions only to the amateur level and the government appears to be oriented to comply with the request (the position of the amateur leagues and the youth sectors remains in the balance). The training sessions of athletes (speech that concerns not only professionalism) of individual and team sports, however, are allowed behind closed doors, complying with the protocols issued by the respective Sports Federations. As for the amateur level only, here are the main provisions:

What can be done

Swimming, gym, tennis, paddle tennis, jogging and all sports that do not require contact.

What can’t be done

Soccer (and derivatives), basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, couple and group dancing, boxing, martial arts, and all other sports that involve contact.

Mask, when to use it

On the delicate question of using the maskThese are the new provisions after the government’s “correction”: mandatory to wear it when walking (defined as “motor activity”); on the other hand, it is not necessary for the practice of sports (“jogging” and “jogging” are included, since they are “related to sports activity”).
