The number of “hospitalized with symptoms of Covid-19” in Lazio continues to increase (884 yesterday: +31 compared to Friday), with the black jersey region for exactly 3 months (the overtaking in Lombardy took place, in fact, last July 10) registering the highest rate of hospitalizations: more than double the national average (13.9 compared to 6.5). But for days Lazio has been overtaken by Campania when it comes to intensive care patients (stable number yesterday, 57, compared to 63 Campania). But the situation of the two neighboring Regions alarms precisely the doctors who work in these rescue rooms: “If the trend of cases of infection by SarsCov2 continues with the current rates and numbers, and without further containment measures, we estimate that less than intensive one-month therapies in the Center-South, especially in Lazio and Campania, can suffer in terms of available beds ”, warns Alessandro Vergallo, president of the Italian association of hospital anesthetists (Aaroi-Emac).

Coronavirus, 5,724 new positives and 29 deaths in the last 24 hours

According to the latest report prepared by the Gimbe Foundation, “8 Regions register hospitalization rates per 100,000 inhabitants above the national average of 6.5: Lazio (13.9), Liguria (13), Campania (9.2) , Sardinia (8, 8), Sicily (7.9), Piedmont (7.1), Abruzzo and Puglia (6.6) “. «The percentage composition of the positive cases currently – explains the president of the Gimbe Foundation, Nino Cartabellotta – has remained constant since the beginning of July: on average 93-94% of the positive cases are in home isolation because they are asymptomatic / oligosymptomatic; 5-6% hospitalized with symptoms and 0.5% in intensive care ». In Lazio, 282 additional intensive care beds and 403 semi-intensive care beds were decreed last July. So only on October 1, however, the calls for works by the extraordinary commissioner for the Covid emergency, Domenico Arcuri, were published: 118 million and 561 thousand euros. However, 5 months have passed since the decree law last May on “urgent measures in the field of health”, with which the Ministry had asked the Regions to “guarantee an increase in hospitalization activities in the ICU responding to “a significant increase in the demand for assistance.” But last month only 2 health establishments, out of the 17 interviewed by Il Tempo, confirmed that they had already activated the additional “structural” beds and not only emergency ones, decreed the Region: 53 for intensive care, plus 20 for semi-intensive for Gemelli and 36 plus 40 for Spallanzani. The other 4 companies that responded, in fact, refer to some later phases to make the announced expansion structural. Although they all declare prepared to face any emergency, in Grassi di Ostia the structural implementation is postponed until 2021, in Sant’Andrea, on the other hand, a “building extension by 2023” is needed and, for San Filippo Neri and Santo Spirito, “it is not possible to indicate precise times at this moment,” explained ASL Roma 1. The Arcuri commissioner has made it known that “at the end of October we will sign the contracts and the works will begin” .
