Infections continue to grow in Campania and De Luca goes to the counterattack: “If we reach a thousand infections, we close everything,” he threatens. In the middle, a scenario that plunges Campania into the epicenter of the Covid emergency. With infections on the rise. With Lombardy approaching a thousand cases followed by Campania with 769 with almost 10,000 tests. Behind the negatives is Veneto, where there are 595 positives followed with 483 by Tuscany. But it is Naples and its province that are most worrying because it produces almost 4/5 of the infections.

“The goal is to have a balance between the new positives and the healed. But if we have a thousand infections and two hundred cured, it is blockage. If we have an increase of 800 new positives every day, we close everything. I do not dramatize, I do a numerical calculation ”, threatens Vincenzo De Luca, officially proclaimed yesterday for his second term as president. But the figures it provides are dramatically approaching the threshold of new straits. And in fact it sends a clear message to the government: “My opinion is that already today we may be at a point where we should make drastic decisions. But let’s wait, we know that a new general shutdown would be a tragedy. But if the problem arises, Italy will have to decide. That is why it is better to be rigorous today by respecting the rules. De Luca now has in mind the preparation of the hospitals because, he says, “ICU admissions will increase” but “it is not true that there are no beds, we have 50 hospitals. To date we have 671 beds for Covid, of which 530 beds. For intensive care we have 100 active beds: 52 hospitalizations ».
And if for months he has built a reputation as the tough guy who manages to keep Covid at bay, for a week he has been under attack after the increase in infections. For this reason, yesterday in his usual weekly forum he defended himself: «In recent months generic tampons were manufactured in other regions, but we make them targeted. We are not interested in propaganda and the positives will seek us out. Because – he adds – with the increase in tampons there is the risk of a paradox: the more positive individuals, the more problems they get. And let’s not forget that we are the region with the lowest number of health workers in relation to the population. The truth, adds De Luca, is that “we have done a job that no one has done, since August 12, swabs from abroad and school personnel and ten days ago, ahead of the government, we introduced the obligation to wear a mask.”
“It is not repression, it is not fascism, it is not sadism, it is the minimum if we do not want them to force us to shut everything down. If you get a thousand positives a day – adds De Luca referring to the order of the other day that closes the nightlife – everything closes. Apart from the half hour or so in the restaurant. We are talking about nonsense, that is, the possibility of going to the restaurant until 11 at night. Under these conditions, it is really the least we can do. And on the controversy of the businessmen of the sector it is cut: «They asked us several things. Of these, I think that only one is reasonable and acceptable, which is to allow starting activities at 5 and not at 6. We will accept it, the rest will not. Regarding the closing time of bars at 11:00 pm and the possibility that restaurants receive customers only until 11:00 pm, De Luca emphasizes that «at 10:00 pm there is no dinner anywhere . Therefore, there are bad habits that must be changed. And, for a change, he warns that the only real news passes only through his social channel: “Wait for the official information of the Region, not from uninformed journalists or mayors who go to television instead of being mayors,” he says, referring to de Magistris .
Meanwhile, new ventilators are arriving for Campania’s intensive and sub-intensive care units. The extraordinary commissioner of the Covid Emergency Arcuri, in fact, accepted the requests received from De Luca and immediately sent the new equipment. In particular, 100 ventilators were sent for sub-intensive care and 50 for intensive care units. “This is a diligent contribution that was necessary in view of the resurgence of the epidemic that occurred in Campania,” explains Arcuri who, also yesterday, signed the ordinance with which the functions are delegated to the Presidents of the Region. as commissioner to manage the health system update plan to strengthen the Covid hospital network.
