In recent months, Sony Interactive Entertainment has maintained a very precise strategy regarding its new game console, PS5. PlayStation revealed the information about the console with the eyedropper, and unlike the Xbox Series X, we couldn’t see the inside of it. Now, however, an official video has been available in which you can see Yasuhiro ootori, Vice President, Mechanical Design Department, Sony Hardware Design Division, Che disassemble the console!
PS5 | The disassembled console
First of all, let’s watch the video together in which Ootori disassembles the PS5, piece by piece. It is obviously remembered, at the beginning, that you shouldn’t try to do the same at home– Not only is the warranty voided, but there is a risk of injury.
Dimensions
At the beginning, we are also reminded what the dimensions of PS5 are: 104mm x 390mm x 260mm. As we all know, it’s bigger than PlayStation 4. The size of the console has sparked discussion in recent months. However, it is promised that progress has been made in terms of silence.
Ports and plugs
We can see that on the front there are two USB ports: a Type-C (SuperSpeed 10 Gbps) and a Type A (Hi-Speed). In the back we have two USB Type A (SuperSpeed 10 Gbps), a LAN port, an HDMI and the power input. It is also shown that both the front and the rear are vents for the passage of air.
Support
the stand to keep the console stable. As for the vertical, the bracket is screwed. In case it is not used in portrait format, the base has a space to store the screw and not run the risk of losing it.
If you want to use it in landscape format, simply turn the base and hook it at the indicated point through a slot on the edge of the console.
Side panels
The side panels can be removed by the user himself simply by pressing. Both the reader side and the “secondary” side are easily removable: This suggests that customization and, above all, replacement by official alternate versions will be very easy.
Ventilation
We can also see the ventilation fan, which will be able to extract air from both the right and left side. It also has two dust collectors: through convenient inlets it will be possible to suck the dust.
The fan, as you can see around 1:30, measures 120mm in diameter and 45mm thick.
In addition, the cooling system is made of liquid metal. Sony calls it “one of the components that required more creativity when designing.” Liquid metal generally performs better than classic thermal paste, but it also lasts less over time.
To dissipate we do not have a Vapor Chamber, but a rather large Heat Sink, which could work very well, but also generate more “noise” than a vapor chamber system.
Memory expansion
We can see that an M.2 interface with PCle 4.0 support is available for future storage expansions.
