Luigi Parisi directs the Blue House: a ghost story in Calabria
Well the roman director Luigi parisi, known for having directed numerous successful fiction films for Canale 5 and having made many fantasy / horror themed short films, returns to Calabria with a new project: The blue House. “It was since 2015 that, after seeing this spectacular abandoned colonial house, I wanted to dedicate a project worthy of its charm to it: my imagination also made fun of following various rumors and legends about the ghosts that inhabited the house” – explains the director. Thus, Luigi Parisi had tried in vain to track down the owners to produce a small video, initially a video investigation. But later, upon learning, through his partner Cecilia C. Maesano Monitra, of a report by journalist Gabriella Lax broadcast in August 2020 on LaCtv right at the Little blue house (in which the owner Maria Antonietta Zuccalà was interviewed), here everything has taken a different turn.
Inspired by the stories that loomed over that cobalt-blue-walled house, a theme full of atmosphere and exciting colors was born within a few hours. A short film mystery so Zuccalà immediately showed availability and interest. “However, the interiors” – continues Parisi – “were at the limit of practicality and it was impossible to take advantage of all the beautiful rooms. This is where “a team” of really willing people comes into play, starting with the organizer. Cecilia C. Maesano Monitra, by the location manager Sunday Monitra, by the teacher Saverio Verduci, gives Giovanni verduci, mayor of Motta San Giovanni e Enza Mallamaci, municipal councilor responsible for Culture, who worked to find the missing rooms. Professor Verduci and Councilor Mallamaci became involved in the Motta area with great dedication, finally obtaining the right locations for the director – they found them in the people of Memè Infortuna and family (with his wife Caterina, his daughter Sabrina and his friend Rossella Infortuna), who cleaned and “set up” their old building for the film. Actors? Reggini obviously, but specifically “not actors”. In the sense that Parisi wanted people in their first experience, relying on their intuition and the experience gained even with those who had never acted in front of a camera. “It was a challenge to have someone who has nothing to do with this profession act. But I wanted a different performance, less atmospheric and more spontaneous as possible ”continues Parisi. Not happy with all this, the filmmaker wanted a presenting veiled in esotericism, in which a sorceress predicts a dark secret to a self-proclaimed physician (interpreted respectively by Marinilda rubeiro me Vincenzo Pinneri). To add to the list of actors, for the first time on the screen the very small Natalia Pinneri (Six years old!) And her sister Victory (12 years old), the latter behind the scenes, in her second experience as a very young assistant director. “For the divination scene, I wanted an owl or an owl behind the sorceress. Yes, but where to go to find them? ”. And here comes the friend’s intervention Ben Marra from Radio Touring 104 introducing us Maria Foti and dr. Giuseppe Barillaro who, in addition to a beautiful Barn Owl (Babalù) and an incredible Snowy Owl, Carmela (the same species used in Harry Potter!), have provided us with their home to create the scene in question.
The director concludes: “Even this little film has the prerogative of being free, without a budget, like all my short films. This is because I argue that having money does not necessarily mean having a higher quality product. The construction of the production line, in fact, is supported only by the will of the people who participated in it and who, with their commitment and strength, made it possible. Painted too often by the media and the cinema, a land used to organized crime, the Calabria that I have tasted is the opposite. I have never known the availability and welcome of Calabrians in any other place: they all did their best in a completely free way and, in fact, intervened on their own to help me in the best way. A moving collaboration that should be an example of how a community should interact for a better world. That is why I love to photograph in Calabria, I have always found enthusiasm, education and hospitality. And for that, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Finally, I would like to thank, with esteem and friendship, Dr. Saverio Anghelone, who, despite the ongoing electoral activity, has dedicated his precious time to this work, the same invaluable commitment that I have seen in other past collaborations ”.
The filming will find its conclusion in the Casetta Blu and with the complete edition (Parisi will make use of the music of the Globo d’Oro Marco Werba and the famous Adam Kadmon |, masked face of the program Mystery of Italy1) the short film will be screened in a room yet to be defined and will be broadcast on the web and at specialized festivals.
The project “The blue House ” It will be presented to the press and professionals on Thursday, October 8, starting at 4:00 p.m., in the council room of the Motta San Giovanni Town Hall. The director will be present Luigi parisi, Mayor Giovanni verduci, the commissioner Enza Mallamaci, the actors and those who collaborated in the project.
