Immuni Journal. I received a notification of exposure to risk and here I will tell you, day by day, what happened to me.
Saturday October 3
At 6.30pm on Saturday I get a strange notification on my smartphone from the Immuni tracking app. The message that appeared on the lock screen invites me to open the app because, it says, there are important updates for me. Once opened, this screen appears: “Exposure to riskIn fact, my smartphone has detected an at-risk contact with a person who tested positive for coronavirus within bluetooth range (that is, a few meters), for at least fifteen minutes. The contact, the app tells me, took place on Tuesday September 29, four days before– In this period of time, obviously, those who contracted the virus tested positive and decided to report it through the Immuni app. I’m obviously surprised, because I’ve never had any kind of symptom and I feel good, but I think that in fact these days it occurred to me to take public transport to go to work. Therefore, you may have had the risk contact there.
At that point, the app immediately advises me to contact my GP and follow their instructions. No other phone numbers are provided. The display also gives you the option to ignore the alert without notifying your doctor, but it is strongly discouraged.
A few minutes later I call my GP, for whom I have a mobile number provided at the time by the Lombardy Region, where I live. Fortunately, he responds immediately to my call, even though Saturday night, but can not give me explanations or details. He anticipates that he will have to organize the tampon, but he does not know how to answer in detail my questions about how I should behave: “They organize things in a big way but they never tell us anything,” he tells me. The questions I would like to ask you are the usual ones: do I have to stay isolated? When can I make a swab? Can I be exempt from working? He responds that he will ask some colleagues for information and then come back to me. At that time, waiting for the doctor’s answers, I also call the switchboard for the Lombardy region and Immuni (800 912491), who respond immediately but simply tell me to contact my GP. Fortunately, a few minutes later I receive a message from the doctor: «Good evening, they tell me that you have activated the application and are notified of a contact at risk. Therefore, for now, you should avoid contact and adopt voluntary isolation. By Monday, you should be able to organize the swab, and therefore quarantine it. Contact me on Monday from 9 to 12. Probably someone who has been dating these days has tested positive. Think about it. “I really don’t want to think about how it happened, just to know as quickly as possible if I’m positive or not. In the meantime, though, I stay home in voluntary isolation.
Monday October 5
At 9 a.m. on Monday I call the doctor to reserve the buffer. After a couple of calls where I’ve found the line busy, I manage to get through to him. Then he enters my name in the database of the health company, he tells me that from that moment on I have to stay home and minimize contact with anyone and that they will call me from the health company to organize the tampon. From now on I am therefore in mandatory isolation. The doctor also offers me the opportunity to enjoy a work permit, for a couple of weeks, but I answer that I do not need it for now as I can work intelligently without symptoms. Therefore, I wonder how long I could wait until the swab is completed: «Between the execution and the result it can also happen 7-8 days»The doctor responds« we are doing a lot of tests for the first symptoms of normal flu. Unfortunately, that’s the way it is. “The doctor also advises me to clean drive-ins, but I don’t have a car and therefore can’t do it.
So far (12:30 on Monday, Oct 5) I still haven’t gotten the call from ASL for the hyssop. As soon as I have more information I will tell you here.
The Immune app can be downloaded for iPhone and Android phones here.
