On September 11, Aria corrected the process to make it more attractive, allowing the advance of 15 million, something that practically never happens. You also have to take into account the 10 euros per dose put on the table: they are double the amount offered in the first races. Even so, however, the Lombardy Region does not bring home the result. the sign that by now the market availability has been exhausted. After all, this is the ninth contest called by Aria: three are not awarded, one is suspended, one is deserted. With the four successful results, Lombardy managed to obtain 1,868,000 vaccines for adults and 430,000 for children. Almost 2.2 million people over 60 years of age who should be vaccinated are alone (75% of the total). Also, there are all other risk categories and those waiting to buy the vaccine at the pharmacy.
But how is it possible that Lombardy, precisely the region most affected by Covid-19, has to deal with fewer flu vaccines than expected? For months, everyone has been aware of its importance, also to allow physicians to distinguish symptoms from one another and not unnecessarily burden hospitals or swab testing laboratories.
To answer the question, it is necessary to start on March 23, the date on which Lombardy counts 1,555 new cases of Covid and 320 deaths in a single day. After the Aria purchasing center certifies the failure of the first bid: It is proposed that the procedure not be awarded since, by the only participating operator, bids were submitted that exceed the auction base. At that time, Glaxosmithkline was available to supply 1.3 million vaccines at € 5.9 per dose. But the tender called by Aria for 4.5 euros a dose, probably in an effort to save.
The second tender is canceled on May 21 because the heads of the health department realize that more vaccines are needed than necessary. On the failure of races at a time when the fight against the fundamental flu, the council group of the Democratic Party of the Region has nailed it since the beginning of August for the voice of Carmela Rozza. It is true that this year 80% more vaccines were purchased than last year, but Lombardy begins with a vaccination rate that did not even reach 50% of the population at risk.
