This morning a mortar bomb was found in the center of Rome, a stone’s throw from Campo de ‘Fiori. The discovery of the device, which probably dates back to World War II, was made by workers who were carrying out renovations in a shop in via dei Cappellari. The device, 15 to 20 centimeters long, was found a meter deep.
Carabinieri from the Centro company, architects and patrols of the local police from Grupo Trevi that are carrying out the closures to isolate the area are in place. The brigade is also proceeding with the retirement of some vehicles to allow recovery and security operations.
About a hundred people are temporarily evacuated from private homes and shops by the security of a military device in the center of Rome. Military engineers are arriving for security intervention. The surrounding streets are also isolated from the pedestrian crossing.
