Covid 19: the daily bulletin, which in Campania Weeks ago, the peaks in new cases, despite the prevalence of asymptomatic infections, are now reflected in the number of critically ill patients in resuscitation. With five new intensive care entries, Campania reaches 35 and surpasses Lombardy (Lazio with 45 occupied beds is the region with the highest number of people in intensive care). If until now it was said that the high number of new positives did not correspond to a stress for hospitals, now this assumption is questioned and also the algorithm developed by the technicians of the crisis unit (which anticipated 38 critical patients by October 21) seems need to be corrected in light of daily progression. There are always many new cases in Campania: yesterday 286 against 295 the day before. However, more swabs were made and therefore there are 45.1 positives for every thousand swabs today compared to 52.8 yesterday. But as mentioned, they increase by five units. intensive therapy (in all Italy only five units have grown) and simple hospitalizations in five. Two deaths (a 61-year-old woman from Giugliano and an 83-year-old man from Naples) for an average of one death per day in the last week and the Rt infectivity index always quite high at 1.43.
Campania, to better respond to the increase in hospitalizations (at an altitude of 417), has reinforced the current network of hospital and local healthcare offer. A rapid reprogramming and reorganization of the need and availability of beds in the intensive and sub-intensive areas was carried out. The number of intensive care beds has risen to 834, compared to the 621 initially planned. The beds included in the modular structures, whose total equipment is 120 units, have all been included in the needs planning. In the month of September in Campania we went from 143 hospitalized with symptoms on September 1, to 415 on September 29. Those in intensive care, in the same period, went from six to 35. Data that speaks for itself. A progression of outbreaks triggered mostly by embers returned from trips abroad against which the crisis unit is trying to implement “extinguishing” measures that go through the new restrictive ordinances, such as the one relating tomask obligation, the tightening of airport controls and now measures on nightlife and restaurants.
However, the increase in the incidence of cases cannot be attributed solely to imports from abroad or to detection activities. 82.4% of the infections diagnosed and notified, in fact, occurred in the regional territory in the last two weeks. Therefore, the level of attention and control must be kept high. Compliance with the prevention measures recommended by the health authorities, the correct use of the mask and social distancing are crucial and unavoidable to counteract the spread of the infection. The highest growth in the regions occurred in Lazio, Campania and Lombardy, although Campania has the highest percentage of positives compared to the number of swabs processed: 5.8% compared to the national average of 2.9%. The average age of the new cases also increased, 41 years, of which: 53% men and 47% women.
Yesterday Naples There were 103 new positives, of which 51 arose from swabs performed at home by the Usca and all close contacts of previous positives, another 13 related to swabs performed on symptomatic patients at the request of general practitioners in whom additional follow-up is being carried out contacts, 8 are the result of private serological screening and subsequent smear for the detection of anti-coronavirus antibodies (all asymptomatic and with in-depth analysis of close contacts in progress) again the result of the screening of returning travelers (now residual) in this case of return from France but worrying are the 30 positives for which a detailed study is being carried out both to track the reasons that generated the need for a swab and to identify close contacts. At present, some of the published numbers are not yet available.
But what is most striking is the growth in ordinary hospitalizations (+ 95%) and intensive care (+ 450%). Of the current positives, 92% are mostly asymptomatic, 7% are in ordinary hospitalization and the remaining 1% are in intensive care. In the last 3 weeks, therefore, Campania has quickly reached the national average values of the first wave and could increase further in the coming days due to the reopening of schools and the beginning of the autumn season and flu epidemic. The only comforting data is mortality, which is still lower than the national one.
