The Party of European Conservatives and Reformists was founded in 2009, after the group was created in the European Parliament. It represents the eurosceptic and anti-federalist right-wing government, but differs both from the more moderate EPP and from the more extreme group to which the Lega and Le Pen’s National Front adhere. He has relations with the main conservative parties in the world, from the Republicans in the United States to the Israeli Likud.

Despite not having MEPs, Meloni announced in November 2018 the entry of FdI into the Ecr, leaving the EPP. After the European elections in May 2019, the six elected FdI MEPs joined the group, made up of 62 MEPs in total.

Raffaele Fitto is also among the three vice presidents of Ecr’s executive committee.
