On a trip with the Alpine troops, this is how the new Covid outbreak in Asti was born: already 16 positives

On September 8, thirty Alpini and even more from Asti moved to Oulx to celebrate the father of one of them, who turned 100. Lunch at the restaurant, tour of the town. And after less than two weeks, more or less the same “black pens” have hired a bus to make a two-day trip to Veneto, to Caorle. Too bad that among them there was a positive for Covid, which infected half of the group of alpine troops and led to a large outbreak, such as had not been seen since the confinement in the Asti area, with at least 16 cases, of the which nine were discovered. in just one day. And from the group of alpine troops, the virus has already passed to the world of schools as the daughter of a traveling participant, who is a support teacher at a secondary school in Asti, has also been infected. All classes and teachers who came into contact with her have been swabbed and a Covid-positive colleague has already been discovered.

The news of the new outbreak was announced by the mayor of Asti Maurizio Rasero who yesterday posted a video on Facebook. “It’s been months since we have seen so many positive cases in one day,” explains the mayor, “the trend is starting to rise again, but today there is no need to worry. Until the end of August we traveled on average one case per day, in the last In three or four days we had an increase of five cases a day and the worst figure was yesterday with nine positives, this increase is due to infections on the bus ”, he explains . At the moment there are 16 positive people in total – one hospitalized in intensive care – who have contracted the coronavirus through the Alpine group, but the bill could grow in the next few hours, when the contact tracing by the ASL ends, between participants , family members, students and high school teachers involved. “We do the swabs between Saturday and Sunday, the other classes are usually at school,” said Rasero.

A story, that of the Alpine troops, which partly recalls the one that in recent months had started the infection in the Asti area, when a large number of people who had participated in a party for the elderly organized in Alassio had been infected and they had brought the virus into Piedmont upon their return. “This new episode – explained Giovanni Messori Ioli, Asti ASL commissioner – reminds us that we must always wear the mask and keep a safe distance. They are simple but important rules because they allow us to live with the virus in a sustainable way, without shutting down completely as happened in the period of confinement. But above all, people should know that those who do not respect these rules are discovered and highlighted by the media. I regret that we found ourselves in this situation with one of the associations with whom during the peak period of the pandemic we worked hard to manage the emergency. I hope that at least of these subjects there is more coherence in behavior ”.
