Lazio restarts in the wake of last year. Same formation, same brilliant game (at least for a while) and a victory to open the season after the postponement of the first match against Atalanta. At the Sardegna Arena, Simone Inzaghi’s boys win 2-0, thanks to Lazzari’s lightning goal -the first in A with the biancoceleste jersey- and in the center of the usual Immobile, putting the first three heavy points of the championship in the safe and signaling the Champions League competitors. Cagliari, on the other hand, remains dry of successes after two games and still shows obvious problems to be solved: gaps in the construction of the offensive game and too much space left for the dominance of the rivals in defense. For Di Francesco, who complains about Simeone’s sensational opportunity at the start of the second half, there is still a lot of work to do.
Devastating Marusic, Lazzari and Immobile drag Lazio down
The Sardinian coach does not risk Godin, with just one training session in his new team, and prefers Klavan with Walukiewicz at his side. Forward is Sottil to complete the trident with Simeone and Joao Pedro, while Nandez goes up in the center of the field. However, there is no new face in Inzaghi’s 11. In defense Patric forms the trio with Acerbi and Radu, in attack Correa is paired with Immobile. Less than four minutes pass from the kick-off and Lazio immediately finds the advantage thanks to the work of their outsiders. Marusic takes a regular position, avoids Faragò’s return and rests in the middle from his back so that Lazzari knocks on an empty goal. The biancocelesti are dissatisfied and continue attacking, closing in on a scrum in the corner action area, before Immobile’s reverse attempt ends over the crossbar. Cagliari’s first shot comes before half an hour, when Patric takes a ball and Rog tries to take advantage of it with a weak but angled right-hander, calling Strakosha to intervention. However, Inzaghi’s team remains dangerous at the restart and plays an encore with Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbian, thrown deep, somehow wins the duel with Lykogiannis but is blocked by Cragno at the start. At the end of the first half another chance for Immobile, whose right-footed shot was parried by another excellent intervention from goalkeeper Rossoblù.
Cagliari started strong in the second half and immediately took a step away from the tie. Strakosha rejects Joao Pedro’s shot from outside, then on the rebound Simeone, alone, shoots high and devours the 1-1. Lazio falls away and is no longer able to handle as in the first 45 minutes, he still finds the opportunity with Milinkovic-Savic to score the double. The Serbian kicks from the line, but Cragno flies and denies him the goal. On the other hand, the goodwill of the Sardinians does not give rise to great opportunities, except for that which occurs at the feet of Walukiewicz who comes out behind everyone in a cross cut, without framing the mirror in the touch from the position of close. Inzaghi sees his players tired and makes some changes, but Marusic still thinks about dragging the Biancocelesti. The winger flies away at the restart with a great play and supports the center for Immobile who aims for the corner and signs the 2-0. For the current Golden Boot, he is the 7th center in the last 8 debuts of the season. And it is the net that lowers the curtain of the match, with the last shakes of Cagliari that do not create danger in the opposite area: after four minutes of recovery the triple whistle arrives that definitively delivers the three points to the Biancocelesti.
