The 18-year-old Pakistani who yesterday injured two people with a knife in front of Charlie Hebdo’s former office confessed to doing so because he “could not bear the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad” that the satirical newspaper recently republished.
This was reported by sources close to the investigation.

According to the sources of the investigation, the Pakistani Ali H. “recognized” and “claimed” his act. According to information obtained from BFM TV, the man – whose detention was prolonged – recognizes “a political dimension to his action.”

Ali H. told investigators that he thought he was taking action against Charlie Hebdo’s editorial team, which instead had moved to a secret and ultra-protected location for the past 4 years. This was revealed by sources of the investigation in Le Parisien. The Pakistani also claimed to have searched the area several times before taking action and the presence of an alcohol bottle in his bag yesterday was due to his initial plan to set the building on fire.
