Night of passion in the province of Palermo. After a day of sirocco and with increasing wind, as well as the meteorological forecasts that had also induced the municipal administration of the capital to close villas and gardens and advance the closing time of “Una Marina di libri”, the fires broke out when night fell. Not in one place but in different areas.
As has happened throughout the summer, the fires, whose malicious origin now seems certain, start at dusk in such a way that they make extinguishing operations difficult and do not allow the Canadair to fly.
Palermo was literally surrounded by the fires that broke out in Carini, in Altavilla Milicia, in Giardinello. In the morning a fire had broken out near Partinico, temporarily closing a section of Palermo-Mazara because the flames were too close to the highway.
Hundreds of calls to firefighters throughout the province. What was worrying were not only the fires but also the strong wind that hit the city of Palermo. One hundred plastic recycling bins were dragged to the street, broken branches especially in viale Strasburgo, viale Diana, in the Zen neighborhood, in via Cordova, in via Houel. “Una Marina di Libri” also closed this morning: in the Botanical Garden, where the event takes place, there is no damage to the stands but a lot of mud on the avenues.
