Mehdi Benatia and Roma’s was an intense love, albeit brief. An experience that the Moroccan defender spoke about today to the microphones of Sports sound center. Benatia also focused on the Giallorossi timing and market rumors, confirming his openness to the possibility of returning to Trigoria. Below is the full interview:
How is your experience in Qatar going?
“My family and I are very happy here. A month ago we finished the championship that was blocked by the coronavirus. At the moment I am happy in Qatar ”.
Do you miss Italy and Italian soccer?
“Of course, I only follow Italian football because the rest does not interest me. I look at everything, I miss the country, you know I’ve always had fun, as a way of life Italy is a country that I especially value ”.
Roma have changed a lot in recent years, a new start came in August, how do you see the Giallorossi?
“I saw the first match with Verona, Roma could have won. I’m happy with Dzeko’s stay, he’s one of the strongest in Europe and he can do it very well. Roma have had very strong players in recent years and I am sure that if they had kept them all they could have fought for great goals in Italy and in Europe. I understand the financial needs but it is a shame that I have not managed to earn anything. I saw that the new owner now has big goals and is building a team with strong youngsters and experienced players. I always wish the best for Roma ”.
Did that Rome, your Rome, deserve something more?
“We had a great season, but unfortunately we couldn’t win. It burned everyone a bit, maybe more, but life is also like that. I have always given everything for the Roma shirt, I would have liked to win something because if I do this job it is to win: it is a shame because all the conditions were in place ”.
What differences did you find in the way of working between Roma, Juventus and Bayern Munich?
“At Juventus there is an incredible work culture, from the first day I understood that we should have run and worked hard and that is why they have been winning for so many years. Bayern Munich is a very serious club, their organization is perfect. In Rome there is certainly much more passion, you can breathe the love of the fans. It’s something nice and that’s why Roma deserve to fight for the top spots every year ”.
What game are you waiting for on Sunday?
“I expect a difficult and close match. I saw Juventus very well. I often talk to some players and it is seen that Pirlo has been accepted by the players, I see them happy and on Sunday he will be the favorite. It will be a close match, Roma have the qualities to put them in difficulties. I have friends on both teams, I won’t be able to cheer, I hope the best one wins.
Have you been close to returning to Rome in recent years? Would you come back
“Since I left Roma, in each session of the transfer market he has considered going back to the Giallorossi. Even when I left Juve two years ago I had spoken with Roma, but the Bianconeri were asking for a lot of money and it was difficult for the Serie A teams. I waited until the last call from Roma. I was fine in the capital, I bought a house after three months, for me it was paradise. I always train the best I can, I did not come to Qatar to sunbathe, if tomorrow I had the opportunity to help Roma I would certainly respond ”.
What championship do you expect, will Inter undermine Juventus?
“I see Inter very strengthened, last year they made a good path and then collapsed at the end. I also see Milan well, Maldini and Massara are doing a great job. Ibra’s confirmation was very important, they took Tonali, Bennacer is fine. So, obviously, I hope that Roma will have a great championship, because these are the great Italian teams for me ”.
