On Wednesday, French Health Minister Olivier Veran announced new restrictions to be adopted in France to try to contain the new spike in coronavirus infections. The minister said that the epidemiological situation throughout the country had “deteriorated” dramatically, with an incidence rate of more than 94 weekly cases per 100,000 inhabitants. What is worrying is the situation in hospitals where there are almost 6 thousand hospitalized for coronavirus (in Italy on September 23 they were less than half).

To deal with the new increase in infections, the country has been divided into different areas, highlighted with three shades of red according to the more or less restrictive measures introduced. The most drastic measures will be taken in Marseille and on the island of Guadeloupe, which has an incidence rate of 250 cases per 100,000 per week, where bars and restaurants must close on Saturday.

Instead, restrictions for areas where the virus incidence rate is higher than 150 weekly cases per 100,000 inhabitants establish that only a maximum of 30 people can participate in weddings and that bars and restaurants must close at 10 pm. gyms and sports halls. These latter measures will apply to the main cities of France, including Paris, Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Nice. Museums, theaters, cinemas and places of worship can remain open, but respecting strict health protocols.
