New coronavirus restrictions to be introduced in England

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced new restrictions in England to try to contain the new increase in coronavirus cases. During his speech in the House of Commons on Tuesday, Johnson said the UK is at a “dangerous tipping point” and for this reason new restrictive measures have been decided that could last “maybe six months”.

From Thursday, September 24, in England, indoor team sports will be banned and the return of fans to stadiums, scheduled for October 1, will be suspended. Only 15 guests will be able to attend weddings, half of what has been allowed so far, while participation in the funeral will be granted to a maximum of 30 people. The use of the mask will be mandatory for retail personnel and for anyone working in contact with the public.

Pubs, bars and restaurants may only provide table service and must close at 10pm, and even taxi passengers will be forced to wear a mask. Johnson made it clear that these new rules are not “a return to the March total lockdown,” recalling that schools and businesses must remain open, but asked those who can work from home to do so.
