“Due to the pandemic, in recent months some 2,000 early diagnoses have been postponed in the province of Bergamo – underlines Lucia De Ponti, president of the local section – including breast cancer, the most common neoplasm in women. This campaign aims to once again draw everyone’s attention to early diagnosis: only in this way will it be possible to continue improving survival at 5 years, now to 87% ”.

As of October 1, Lilt Bergamo, with the sponsorship of the Bergamo City Council and in collaboration with Cittadinanza Attiva, starts the awareness program for women with the traditional offer of free breast exams. This year there will be a total of 502, distributed among Asst Papa Giovanni XXIII, East Bergamo, West Bergamo, Humanitas Castelli, Humanitas Gavazzeni, Habilita Group, Methodo, Centro Borgo Palazzo Outpatient medical clinic for women in addition to the Lilt Onlus Delegations of Verdello and Trescore Spa with 13 distribution points throughout the province.

«We have managed to maintain special attention for the women of the Seriana Valley and the Brembana Valley – underlines Lucia De Ponti – by activating two distribution points in private facilities (Quarenghi Clinical Institute in San Pellegrino and Rsa Fondazione Sant’Andrea in Clusone). Also this year, reservations can be made exclusively online, from the website www.legatumoribg.it.

The campaign is aimed at women excluded from mammography screening promoted by the Lombardy Region, which has recently broadened the age range of the women involved. “Women under 45 and over 75 will therefore have access to free visits – continues De Ponti – to sensitize them in the care and attention of their body.” Symbolically, in Bergamo Porta San Giacomo will light up in pink, thanks to the collaboration with the Bergamo City Council; other municipalities have also accepted the invitation of Anci Nazionale and will illuminate a monument in pink
