The center-right candidate Francesco Acquaroli is far ahead in the regional elections in the Marche region: the vote is still ongoing, but according to projections and partial data, he has an advantage of about ten percentage points over Maurizio Mangialardi of the Democratic Party.
According to SWG’s latest projection for La7, Acquaroli is around 47 percent and Mangialardi around 37 percent. Opinio’s latest screening for Rai gives Mangialardi a few points further back. Also according to projections, Gian Mario Mercorelli, the candidate of the 5 Star Movement, lags far behind, at around 10 percent.
The Marches are considered a “red region” but polls conducted before the vote already predicted that the center-right would have the upper hand. It is the only region that in this electoral round went from center left to center right: in the others where it was believed possible, Tuscany and Puglia, the center left won.

Mangialardi is from the Democratic Party, is 55 years old and is the current mayor of Senigallia. Francesco Acquaroli is 46 years old, he was mayor of Potenza Picena until 2018 and is now a member of the Brothers of Italy. He also ran for MEP in 2019, but was not elected.
The PD and M5S had tried until the last minute to forge an electoral alliance in the region, but despite negotiations that lasted until more than mid-August, no agreement could be reached. In the end, some exiles from the M5S of the Marches converged on both the Mangialardi and Acquaroli lists.
