Government slap Virginia Raggi. In recent days, the mayor has come forward to be appointed extraordinary commissioner of Metro C, on the model of the reconstruction of the Morandi bridge in Genoa and the Milan Expo where the mayor Marco Bucci and Beppe Sala were commissioners (but before arriving to Marine Palace). The executive headed by Giuseppe Conte however, swords answered.
Virginia Raggi, the mayor to be commissioned who wants to be commissioned – by Paolo Graldi
This is due to the fact that, in the eyes of several members of the government, it seems very strange that this claim is made by a mayor who in the years of her administration showed an evident inertia. And that has always failed to address and solve the capital’s problems. Especially since Raggi rejected the Olympics, did not name the city as the headquarters of the European Medicines Agency and now does not propose that Rome be the site of the G20 world summit for the health emergency planned for 2021. A world summit that would contribute at least in part to the rebirth of the city.
Infrastructures, Vice Minister Cancelleri: “Great works like in Genoa, commissioners also for Rome”
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Giancarlo Cancelleri, here we are: the route outlined by the decree for the simplification of strategic works comes to life with the appointment of commissioners to unlock some 50 infrastructures worth 30 billion. Can you keep the promise to empower the Expo and Genoa model by September?
The suspicion, and this is also the reason for the refusal, is that the mayor has tried to use the appointment as commissioner of Metro C to get a “job” of a certain prestige even when, next spring, she will not be much more likely to mayor of Rome. In fact, the post of commissioner of the subway line would continue after the expiration of the mandate in the Capitol, since the works will continue well beyond the next Roman municipal elections. And this statement “by those who have only done evil in the capital”, to quote an exponent of the Democratic Party, has irritated and even enraged the dem and Renzian wing of the red-yellow government.
“INADEQUATE”
But there is more. For the Prime Minister and the Minister of Infrastructure, Paola de Micheli, Raggi would not have enough requirements to complete such a complex work. “The mayor,” explains a senior government source as a result of the dossier, “came forward to be appointed extraordinary commissioner for the construction of Metro C, but we had to respond with a ‘no thanks. This is because Rays, explains the same source, “does not seem to be able to carry out the mission of the new metro line in the capital. Complex operation requiring adequate technical requirements. That is why we will look for and identify an expert and, in agreement with the mayor, we will appoint him in the next few days.
The government’s refusal to nominate Raggi is also the result of an interview with the unions by De Micheli. The union representatives, in order to safeguard the jobs linked to the construction of Metro C, have recently asked the Minister of Infrastructure to appoint an extraordinary commissioner to overcome obstacles and delays and finish the work once and for all. During the meeting, the unions did not bet on the thin ones. They pointed out that the option to indicate the mayor would be a mistake. Better, much better, focus on an expert “with the right skills: a technician, an engineer, a professional.” And De Micheli could only agree to this request, even if no official confirmations arrive from Porta Pia’s ministry.
The completion of Metro C was included at the last minute in the list of works to be carried out with the help of the commissioners. On the July list, the result of a majority agreement, the metro line was missing. But De Micheli on the last list sent to Conte’s desk also put Metro C. By the end of the month, the prime minister should launch a Dpcm with the complete list. Subsequently, it will be the Minister of Infrastructures who designates the commissioners by ministerial decree. “And all will be technical figures”, filters from the Porta Pia dicastery. One more confirmation that Raggi’s self-nomination has been halted. No appeal.
