(ANSA) – BANGKOK, SEPTEMBER 20 – Thousands of protesters returned to the square this morning in Bangkok, rejoicing when some activists displayed a plaque near the royal palace that says ‘Thailand belongs to the people’. An open challenge launched by the new movement, made up mainly of young people, to the impregnable Thai monarchy.

Early today, protesters set up a commemorative “People’s Plaque” on the paved area adjacent to the Sanam Luang camp near the royal palace. “Down with feudalism, long live the people,” protester organizer Parit Chiwarak shouted to the crowd. The plaque is dated September 20, 2020, followed by the proclamation: “The people have expressed their intention that this country belongs to the people and not to the king.”
