But is a situation like this, with so many drivers in a few tenths, stressful or exhilarating?
“It’s stressful: when you roll 0” 3 you expect to be in the first row or, in the worst case, fourth. Instead, I am the seventh: it is the biggest difference compared to 10-15 years ago. But that’s it, if you want to be part of the game you have to adapt to this situation, work on all the details. So, however, the race is always different, other factors come into play. I feel quite good: it is true that there are at least seven riders with a good pace, but that does not necessarily mean that tomorrow it will also be like this.
You said that there is a lot of difference from 15 years ago: is there something you don’t like?
“No, there is nothing I don’t like. Many are nostalgic, some of the 2-stroke bikes, some of the nineties: in my opinion it is the best Motogp of all time, this is the most beautiful bike to ride. Of course, in the 90s I was winning more, I preferred it for that, but now the world championship is great. We have to understand why we are all so close, be it because of the tires, the control unit, other technical issues, or the greater professionalism and preparation of the drivers for the race ”.
Now it is a constant fight with the pilots of the Academy.
“I prefer to fight with Pecco and Franco, maybe get paid, rather than with others. We are friends, but everyone on the track does what they like ”.
Bagnaia had had a great time.
“He deserved the pole, he was very good. The first position was now his, then he exaggerated, he went to the green, but still made a great lap ”.
How do you explain this big difference to the other Ducati riders?
“Pecco is driving very well, he is able to use the Ducati in the best way: the negative aspects do not bother him and he takes advantage of the positive points. The ducati is not an easy bike, but it drives it very well. Tomorrow he will be very strong in the race, he has a great pace ”.
Is it true that you are trying to take Marini to MotoGP? It has also been said of his team.
We are talking about Luca, we hope he has a chance for 2021. As far as we are concerned, we certainly do not think of a team in MotoGP next year: let’s see in 2022, when a lot of things will change (the contracts between the teams and Dorna need to be renewed ., NDA), we need to understand what happens. At the moment, we are happy with what we are doing in Moto3 and Moto2: this is our dimension. In MotoGP we have to take another step ”.
