Young man falls and dies after 150-meter flight

A 24-year-old American hiker lost his life after crashing 150 meters on the Strada delle 52 Gallerie, the tragedy took place in Valli del Pasubio, late Saturday morning.

The hiker, who was with a friend at the exit of tunnel 23, for reasons to be determined lost his balance on the edge of the cliff and fell into the void. The alarm went off at 11:45, starting from the coordinates of the point of the fall, the Verona emergency helicopter carried out a reconnaissance and identified the body in one of the numerous channels at 1,500 meters above sea level. He then flew to the rendezvous with a team from Schio Alpine Rescue, tackled a rescuer to support operations, and lowered him with a 30-meter winch along with the crew’s helicopter rescue technician.

Once the clearance for removal was obtained, the recomposed and incarnated body was recovered again using the winch to be transported to the Balasso Refuge and entrusted to the hearse in the presence of the carabinieri. The other rescuers went to meet the boy’s partner, who had been with a couple who had witnessed the accident, to accompany him downstream to Bocchetta Campiglia.
