Known for its particular shape reminiscent of a turtle, Gallinara Island was owned by the Church until 1842 and later sold to individuals. For a long time it belonged to an Srl that belonged to 9 Ligurian and Piedmontese families and on June 17 it was sold to a Monte Carlo company linked to the Ukrainian magnate Boguslayev. Located 1.5 kilometers from the coast, the island is a nature reserve.

The acquisition of the villa from the State heritage, as indicated in the report of the Mibact regional secretariat for Liguria, allows return to the public enjoyment a part of the island, which would be used as an exhibition and operational place for the Ligurian institutes of the ministry in which to promote the exceptional archaeological, historical-artistic and landscape values that make the island unique on the national scene.

Greater usability of the island will be possible thanks to the participation of Naval Archaeological Museum of Albenga and the underwater archaeological area. The village lends itself to becoming a first documentation center, as indicated in the report, a research center and logistical base for future archaeological investigations to be carried out on the island and in the surrounding sea.
