The man received a phone call from a prerecorded message who warned him that his checking account was under attack and invited him to contact the indicated number as soon as possible to stop a possible fraud. In fact, just by making that phone call, the businessman fell for the scam.
A scam so well designed that the man, before calling, had verified that the number indicated was in fact his institution. However, this number had been hacked.
The alleged banking operator asked the man for a series of personal details, including his account PIN codes, to block elusive fraudulent activity. Received said data, from the employer’s account 30 thousand euros were stolen.
From the investigations of the carabinieri it was discovered that the authors of the scam are two men and a woman, residents in the areas of Napolitana, Foggia and Viareggio, already harmed by similar crimes. The three were reported in a state of freedom to the Prosecutor of Verona.
