The Ministry of Education, through the Lazio Regional School Office, has requested an in-depth study on the subject related to Socrates High School in Rome in which the vice principal would have invited students not to wear scanty clothing. In fact, the desks have been removed to respect the distance – we are waiting for the arrival of the cars – and skirts that are too short, according to the teacher, would attract the eyes of teachers and male colleagues. The observation, however, would not have pleased the students who today appeared en masse in skirts and hung up posters denouncing sexism.
“It is obvious that male and female students should attend classes with dignified clothing, as a sign of respect for the institution that the school represents and for themselves. However, it is not acceptable that the motivation underlying this obedient behavior refer to a hypothetical and deplorable voyeurism of teachers (men). Teachers who, in addition, have an important educational role ”. This was stated by the president of the National Association of Rectors, Antonello Giannelli. “We must avoid -explains the union leader- that, due to an evident and marginal communicative incident, the category of Public opinion perceives teachers in a distorted and degraded way and that the Socrates institute is misrepresented as a garrison of an obscurantist culture. The episode shows, once again, how fundamental it is to use words correctly and consciously ”.
“Correct communication at school is essential. Suggesting to students and teachers, but also to teachers, appropriate clothing for the place and in compliance with shared codes of conduct is absolutely legitimate.” Write it on facebook Vittoria Casa, president of the 5 Star Movement in the Montecitorio Culture Committee which he underlines: “On the other hand, it is wrong to ask students not to wear a miniskirt because otherwise the teachers could fall from their eyes.
